As a young man William John (Bill) served his country. He worked in the post office prior to serving. During the final days of the war in France William was gassed by the Germans. 

William John Cervenka served his country and at many levels of his VFW post. Shown here with is parents, wife Mildred, his sister Antonia (Tone) and his three children: John William Cervenka, Elaine Rozalie Cervenka Harris, and William Frank Cervenka.
